Hraundalur Farm is located outside Borgarnes en route to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The drive from Reykjavik is an hour and twenty minutes. The property is 700 hectares, mostly pristine lava grown with birch and moss. The house is approached via a two kilometre private road - this is as secluded a place as you can find anywhere. The farmhouse which sleeps 8 guests is a contemporary villa with a fireplace, and a sauna - and since this is a Place to Read, a good library. The landscape is magnificent as are the views in all directions. A small stream with the occasional salmon runs through the property on the edge of the lava field. In late summer a pair of eagles comes to search for food and visit us throughout winter, as do ducks and swans who like the fact that parts of our river never freeze due to fresh water filtered by the lava which stays at a constant temperature year round. Check back with us later in the year to follow our progress, or to book your stay.
